Cast iron Pestle and Mortar


This classic cast iron pestle and mortar design by Robert Welch is an indispensable item of kitchen equipment for any cook. This design features an elongated pouring channel which doubles as a rest for the pestle. 

  • Designed for grinding dry spices.
  • If needed to wash with hot soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly. Once dry apply a light coat of vegetable oil to maintain performance and avoid oxidation.
  • If your pestle and mortar has started to retain the smells and stains of strong spices, try pouring some dry white rice into the mortar and use the pestle to grind it to a fine powder. Discard the rice and repeat the process as necessary.
